IQ Option FAQ India: Your 2026 Questions Answered

Legality and Tax Questions

The honest position is a grey one. IQ Option is on the RBI Alert List and is not SEBI-registered, but no Indian law makes an individual retail user of the platform a criminal by name. Profits are taxable income.

These are the questions that come first, and they deserve to be answered without either reassurance or scare-mongering.

Is IQ Option legal in India?

There is no clean yes or no, and anyone offering one is overreaching. What can be stated as fact is that IQ Option appears on the Reserve Bank of India's Alert List — entry 25 at the time of our check, on a list stated as updated 19 November 2025. The RBI describes that list as containing "names of entities which are neither authorised to deal in forex under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA) nor authorised to operate electronic trading platform (ETP) for forex transactions under the Master Direction – Reserve Bank of India (Electronic Trading Platforms) Directions, 2025 dated June 16, 2025."

Read that carefully: it is a statement about authorisation, not a finding of fraud, and it is about the entity rather than about you. The RBI also cautions the public against undertaking forex transactions on unauthorised electronic trading platforms or remitting money for them, and notes that absence from the list should not be taken as authorisation. We will not extend that into a verdict about your personal position. Our legality guide works through it properly.

Do I pay tax on profits?

Indian residents are taxed on worldwide income, so trading gains do not become invisible by arising on an offshore platform. How a specific profit is classified — speculative income, business income, capital gains — is fact-specific and depends on your activity, frequency and circumstances. We do not publish rates, slabs, thresholds or deadlines here, because getting one of those wrong in an article would cause real harm. Keep complete records of every deposit, trade and withdrawal, and take the classification question to a chartered accountant. Our tax page explains the record-keeping without inventing numbers.

What do RBI and FEMA say about sending money out?

The Liberalised Remittance Scheme allows a resident individual to remit up to USD 250,000 per financial year for permitted purposes. The Master Direction is explicit that remittances for margins or margin calls to overseas exchanges or overseas counterparties are not allowed under the Scheme, alongside purposes prohibited under Schedule I or restricted under Schedule II of the relevant rules. That is the specific provision anyone funding a leveraged offshore trading account should read for themselves — see our RBI and FEMA page.

The regulatory facts are checkable in a few minutes on the RBI and SEBI sites, and reading them yourself is worth more than any summary, including ours.

Money Questions

Deposits, withdrawals and minimums are the areas where published figures go stale fastest, so we give bands and tell you where the current number lives rather than quoting one as fact.

Money questions attract more invented numbers than any other category. Here is what can honestly be said.

What is the minimum deposit?

We could not confirm a current figure on an official page, so we will not state one. The minimum is commonly reported around the USD 10 mark, which is roughly ₹800 to ₹900 at current rates, and the minimum position size is commonly reported at about USD 1. Treat both as approximate and check the figure shown at your own cashier before you plan around it. Our minimum deposit page explains why the rupee equivalent moves even when the dollar figure does not.

Can I deposit or withdraw with UPI?

We cannot tell you that UPI works, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Whether UPI, a wallet or any INR rail appears for you is not something we could confirm from an official source, and payment menus vary by country and change without notice. The only reliable answer is the cashier screen inside your own account. Read our deposit methods page for how to check, and remember that whatever route appears, the FEMA questions above apply to the remittance itself.

Does IQ Option actually pay withdrawals?

We have run no withdrawal ourselves and will not claim to have. What we can offer is the framework for judging it: expect identity verification to be required before funds leave, expect withdrawals to route back toward the method used to deposit, and expect two separate clocks — the operator's own processing, and then your bank or card scheme, which adds its own time regardless. Timelines in this industry typically run from same-day to a few business days on the operator's side. Our page on withdrawal proof explains how to evaluate the evidence you find online, most of which is unverifiable.

  • Complete verification early, so it is not the thing standing between you and a withdrawal request.
  • Withdraw a small amount first, before you have a large balance riding on the process.
  • Keep your own record of every request with dates, so any support conversation starts from facts.

Test the money path with a small withdrawal early rather than discovering how it behaves when a meaningful balance depends on it.

Account Questions

Registration is short, verification is standard for the industry, and both are best done before you fund anything. Closure is handled through the platform rather than by abandoning the account.

The account lifecycle throws up three recurring questions.

How do I log in?

Login uses the email address and password you registered with, through the official site or the app. Two practical points matter more than the mechanics. First, reach the platform by typing the address yourself or using a bookmark you created — search results and messages are where cloned login pages live, and trading platforms are a favourite target. Second, if a login fails, the cause is far more often a browser or network issue than a locked account. Our login page walks through the checks in order.

How does verification work?

Expect to be asked for something proving your identity, something tying you to an address, and confirmation that a payment method belongs to you. We deliberately do not publish an accepted-document list, because no verifiable official list exists and the wrong list wastes your time. Prepare clear, uncropped, in-date documents whose name matches your account exactly, and follow the instruction on your own verification screen. Our KYC guide covers preparation and the usual reasons submissions come back.

How do I close or delete my account?

Account closure is handled through the platform's own support channel rather than by simply not logging in. Withdraw any remaining balance first, keep a copy of your trading and transaction history for your tax records before access ends, and make the closure request in writing so you have a record of it. Ask specifically what happens to the identity documents you uploaded and over what period they are retained — the answer is in the operator's privacy documentation, and it is a fair question to put to support.

Export your transaction history before you close anything — it is the record your accountant will ask for, and it becomes hard to retrieve afterwards.

App and Product Questions

The platform runs in a browser, with mobile and desktop builds whose availability depends on your country. The demo is free, and the product mix moved toward FX, CFDs and digital options after 2018.

These questions are about the software and what you are actually trading on it.

How do I get the app?

Start from the official site and follow whatever download route it shows for your country — availability of any particular build, including whether an Android app appears on Google Play or is offered as a direct APK, varies by region and changes. That variability is exactly why the download link should come from the official source and never from a file-sharing site or a message. Sideloading an APK from an unofficial mirror is the most reliable way to install something other than what you intended. If you would rather not install anything, the browser version exists. Our app download page and the desktop guide cover both routes.

Is there a free demo account?

Yes — a practice account funded with virtual money, refillable when you exhaust it, running on the same interface and the same instruments as the live platform. For an Indian reader it has a second advantage worth naming: practising involves no deposit and therefore no outward remittance, so the FEMA questions above simply do not arise while you are on practice funds. You can read what the demo does and does not teach, or open a free practice account and look at the platform yourself before deciding anything about real money.

What are digital options and CFDs?

The product mix here shifted after 2018. ESMA agreed on 23 March 2018 to prohibit the marketing, distribution or sale of binary options to retail investors, and separately restricted CFDs for retail clients through leverage limits, margin close-out, negative balance protection and a mandatory risk warning. Those measures applied to retail investors in the European Union, not in India, and they are why the industry's product line moved toward FX, CFDs and digital options. Note carefully what this does not mean: the ESMA protections do not extend to a client in India. Our instruments page explains how each product actually settles.

The 2018 European rules reshaped what these platforms sell everywhere, but the investor protections that came with them stop at the EEA border.

Trust and Support Questions

IQ Option is a long-running platform with a CySEC-licensed European entity, no Indian authorisation, and no local phone support. All three of those facts belong in the same sentence.

The last group of questions is about whether to trust the thing at all, and how to get help when something goes wrong.

Is IQ Option a scam or legitimate?

We do not call it a scam, and we do not certify it as safe. The verifiable picture is mixed and you are entitled to see all of it. On one side: the European entity, IQBroker Europe Ltd (formerly IQOption Europe Ltd), holds CySEC licence 247/14, issued 30 July 2014 and shown as authorised, registered in Limassol. On the other: that licence covers clients in the European Economic Area and does not cover clients in India, who contract with a separate non-EEA entity; the platform appears on the RBI Alert List; and it is not a SEBI-registered intermediary — it does not appear on SEBI's public register, which you can search yourself. Our scam-or-legit page and our safety and regulation page set out both sides at length.

Is there an IQ Option customer care number for India?

We found no Indian customer care phone number, and we would treat any number circulating on social media or in search results as a risk rather than a shortcut — impersonated "support numbers" are a standard route into account and payment fraud. Support runs through the channels inside the platform and its official site. Never share a password, a one-time code, a card CVV or screen access with anyone claiming to be support. Our contact page explains how to raise and escalate an issue.

How safe is my money?

The honest answer separates two risks. Market risk is unavoidable and substantial: trading leveraged and short-dated products loses money for most retail participants, and no platform, feature or strategy changes that. Counterparty risk is the second, and it is where the entity question bites — a client in India is not covered by the CySEC licence, by an EEA compensation scheme or by an EEA ombudsman, and there is no Indian regulator to appeal to either. Neither observation is a reason to panic or a reason to relax. Both are reasons to size any deposit as money you can afford to lose, and to read our full IQ Option India review before committing anything.

  • Verify the regulatory claims yourself on the RBI, SEBI and CySEC sites rather than taking any site's word for them.
  • Keep your own transaction records; they are your only independent evidence in a dispute.
  • Start on practice funds, and treat any first real deposit as a test of the process rather than a position.

Every regulatory claim on this page has a public register behind it — spending ten minutes checking them yourself is the single most useful thing a new reader can do.

Frequently asked questions

Is IQ Option banned in India?

We have seen nothing establishing a ban, and we will not say there is one. What is verifiable is that IQ Option appears on the RBI Alert List of entities not authorised to deal in forex under FEMA or to operate a forex electronic trading platform, and that it is not a SEBI-registered intermediary. That is about authorisation of the entity, not a prohibition directed at you personally.

Does the RBI Alert List mean IQ Option is a scam?

No. The RBI defines the list as naming entities that are not authorised to deal in forex under FEMA or to run a forex electronic trading platform. It is a statement about authorisation, not a finding of fraud. The RBI also warns that an entity absent from the list should not be assumed to be authorised, so the list is a starting point for your own checks rather than a verdict.

Where can I check IQ Option regulatory status myself?

Three public sources cover it. The RBI Alert List page shows whether the entity is named and when the list was last updated. SEBI publishes searchable registers of registered intermediaries. The CySEC register shows the European entity, IQBroker Europe Ltd, and the scope of licence 247/14. Checking all three takes about ten minutes and beats relying on any review site.

What is the safest way to try IQ Option from India?

Start on the free practice account, which requires no deposit and therefore no outward remittance at all. Use that time to complete identity verification and to read the RBI, FEMA and tax pages properly. If you later decide to fund an account, treat the first deposit and a small test withdrawal as an exercise in checking the process rather than as a trade.

Is IQ Option better than Olymp Trade or Quotex?

None of those competitors was independently verified by us either, so we will not rank them on licences, minimums or payouts that nobody has checked. Compare them on things you can confirm yourself: which entity you actually contract with, what a regulator says about each, what the cashier offers you, and how clearly the terms are published. Our comparison pages take that approach.
